Dr. Bashar Mutahar is an Associate Professor of Mass Communication with extensive expertise in Public Relations and New Media. His research focuses on media influence, government communication, radio and TV production, crisis communication, social media campaigns, and the cognitive and behavioral effects of media on public perception. He has published widely in both regional and international peer-reviewed journals, including SCOPUS-indexed outlets, and has authored several books on health media campaigns and terrorism and media. His recent work includes studies on social media dependency during health crises among Yemeni immigrants in the UK, as well as the utilization of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data in the field of Public Relations campaigns.

Dr. Mutahar has more than 15 years of teaching experience across Yemen, Jordan, and the UAE. He has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses in communication theories, media research methods, public relations, government communication, and digital media. Beyond classroom teaching, he designs and delivers specialized workshops to enhance students’ practical skills in organizational communication, leadership, and professional media practices. He has supervised over 15 master’s theses, contributing significantly to postgraduate education in media studies, academic accreditation, and academic quality.

He holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Cairo University, Egypt, with a dissertation on the role of international media in shaping the knowledge and attitudes of the Yemeni elite toward political issues. He also holds two M.A. degrees in media and communication (Strathclyde University, UK) and media Health campaigns (Cairo University, Egypt). Dr. Mutahar has completed professional courses in Crisis Management and Leadership Development, further enhancing his expertise in applied communication and organizational practices.

He has held numerous academic and administrative positions, including Associate Professor, Department Head, and Dean of the Centre for Human Rights and Public Opinion Measurement. His professional experience also includes serving as Executive Director of the Yemeni Governmental Corporation for Radio and Television (2013–2015) and leadership roles in governmental media initiatives and public relations consultancy. Among his accolades, he received the prestigious Gulf Radio and Television Grand Prize for outstanding research in the field of media. Dr. Mutahar is also an active member of the Yemeni Journalists’ Syndicate.
