His research interests are in the broad field image processing and pattern recognition with emphases on medical image processing and analysis, image and video database indexing and retrieval systems, parallel algorithms for content-based multimedia retrieval, data knowledge and discovery, data clustering and data mining, video abstraction, cryptography and steganography, data security and cybersecurity, machine learning, neural networks and fuzzy logic, and computer vision. In recent years, Prof. Al-Omari has developed interest in research topics related to Smart Learning Environments in the light of Education 4.0 requirements, technology acceptance, digital transformation, future trends in technology, and future labor market needs. He has published over 40 articles in world class international journals and conferences. He serves as a member of the editorial board for a number of international journals. He was invited as a speaker in a number of conferences and workshops and was a member of scientific, technical and advisory committees in several conferences.
